01

Why this voyage, and why now.

1%

The rarest passport stamp on earth

Fewer than one in a hundred travellers ever set foot on Antarctica. It is the last continent, untouched by permanent settlement, governed only by treaty and ice.

New Year

Midnight, under the polar sun

You will welcome 2027 in the only place on earth where the sun does not set. A celebration framed by glaciers, humpbacks and the soft hush of polar twilight.

3

A family memory, sealed forever

This is the journey that becomes the family's defining story. Told across decades, photographed once, lived in full presence by the three of you, together.

The Route

Buenos Aires to the 67th parallel south.

The journey begins in Buenos Aires. From there, an included private charter jet carries you 3,000 kilometres south to Ushuaia, the southernmost city on earth, where World Navigator waits at port.

Two days across the Drake Passage, six days exploring the Antarctic Peninsula, then the homeward crossing. A complete arc of land, sea and ice.

The Vessel

World Navigator, by Atlas Ocean Voyages.

One of the newest expedition ships ever to sail polar waters. Launched in 2021, ice-strengthened, purpose-built for the Southern Ocean. Yacht-like in feel, art deco in soul.

Capacity is held at just 176 guests for Antarctica sailings, well below the 199 the ship can carry, so every Zodiac launch, every shore landing, every meal feels measured and unhurried.

Before you go.

Antarctic summer temperatures generally sit between zero and four degrees Celsius, much milder than most imagine. The key is layering, not bulk. Atlas will issue each of you a full-length insulated parka with vest, yours to keep, and waterproof knee boots for shore landings, on loan throughout the voyage.

What you bring covers the layers underneath. We recommend:

  • Base layer. Long johns and thermal tops in merino wool, fleece, or synthetic blends. Two or three sets, enough to rotate.
  • Mid layer. A fleece or light down jacket for insulation under the parka.
  • Waterproof trousers. Essential for Zodiac landings, where sea spray is part of the experience.
  • Hands, head, neck. Waterproof gloves or mittens, a knit wool cap, and a scarf or neck gaiter.
  • Sun protection. Polarised sunglasses, lip balm, and sunscreen, ideally reef-safe and oxybenzone-free.
  • On board. Smart casual is the dress code. There are no formal nights. A jacket, blazer or dress for dinner is optional, never required.

The ship has a dedicated mud room with personal gear lockers for changing into and out of polar kit, so heavy clothing never needs to come into the staterooms.

It varies, day to day, voyage to voyage. Some crossings are calm, what the expedition community calls a Drake Lake. Others bring genuine swell, the Drake Shake. World Navigator is built specifically for these waters, with advanced stabilisers and ice-strengthened construction designed to maximise comfort.

The ship's doctor is on call throughout the crossing, and seasickness medication is available, complimentary, from the medical centre. Most guests find that with a patch or tablet on the first morning, they have very little trouble. The Drake is two days each way, then six days of expedition.

Late December and early January is peak Antarctic summer, the height of wildlife activity. You can expect:

  • Penguins. Gentoo, chinstrap, and Adelie colonies, often with chicks. Tens of thousands of birds in some rookeries.
  • Whales. Humpback and minke are most common in this window, often in feeding groups. Orca sightings are less guaranteed but possible.
  • Seals. Weddell, crabeater, and leopard seals on ice floes. Fur seals along the shore.
  • Seabirds. Wandering albatross, petrels, skuas, and terns throughout the crossings and at landings.

Atlas's expedition team includes professional naturalists and a photographer who help you interpret and capture what you see.

Atlas welcomes guests aged eight and above on Antarctic expeditions, accompanied at all times by a parent or guardian. There is no upper age limit, though all guests should be in reasonable health and able to step on and off a Zodiac with assistance from the crew.

The voyage is well suited to a young adult travelling with family. Many young guests find that Antarctica becomes a defining experience in their lives, talked about for decades after.

International flights to and from Buenos Aires are not included in this proposal. We can book these separately, in Business or First Class with airlines of your preference. Please let us know once you confirm and we will share options.

Visa. Indian passport holders require a tourist visa for Argentina. Pickyourtrail will assist with the documentation and submission. Antarctica itself requires no visa, as no country sovereignly holds it.

Insurance. Atlas includes emergency medical evacuation coverage for every guest. We strongly recommend an additional comprehensive travel insurance policy covering cancellation, baggage, and medical expenses. We will recommend trusted providers at the time of booking.

Wi-Fi. World Navigator uses Starlink, so connectivity is fast and reliable throughout the voyage, including in Antarctic waters. This is a recent advancement that earlier expedition guests did not enjoy.

Currency. All on-board billing is in US Dollars. Gratuities are already included. Buenos Aires uses the Argentine Peso; major credit cards are accepted at most hotels and restaurants.

Time zone. Argentina is GMT minus three. The ship operates on Argentine time throughout the voyage to keep daily rhythm consistent. India is eight and a half hours ahead of Buenos Aires.

A note to close

When the moment finally arrives,
let it be everything you imagined.

Some trips you take. This one, you remember. Whenever you are ready, we are ready.
